Question posted from RedRoom414
I quit smoking 5 days ago. I have been smoking for 10 years. In my sixth year I quit for 4 months and it really wasn’t a big deal. This time around it’s horrible. I am aware that the chemical addiction and withdrawal symptoms normally ends in 24 to 48 hours, but for the last three days I have been going through the worst withdrawal symptoms I have ever experienced. To be blunt, this is far worse than cocaine detox. Due to other prescriptions I am taking I can not use the patch or chant-ix. (As advised by my physician. I have a migraine level headache that not even imatrex has managed to beat down, my hands are shaking so badly its taking me two or three tries to type a word correctly, the muscles in my legs and arms are cramping on and off, I cant sleep, I am sweating through a pair of dry cloths every few hours, and the smell of food makes me sick to my stomach. I keep waiting for this to ease and Im telling myself I can push through it. I’m well into the stage of worry and I think I need to see a different doctor, according to mine this is normal. Has any one else been through this and had a similar experience? How long did it take to get to the other side? Do you have any remedies maybe someone passed to you? I need to know then this is going to ease up. Please, any information or ideas would be very appreciated.

12|Apr|2009 1You don’t say what prescriptions you are taking, but I wouldn’t be afraid to bet that some of those symptoms you are having is a side effect of the prescription medicine. The reason my thinking along those lines is your Doctor told you this is normal. Another problem I think you are having is the fact you want to quit but you are fighting it. If you don’t have the true will to quit, you won’t no matter what help aids you are taking. Quiting starts in the mine. I have had people tell me even ten years after they quit, they still have that urge to want a cigarette. I have never heard of anyone having the problems you are speaking about happening to you. I still think first, you need to go on a medical site or talk to your pharmacist and see if any of the things you are experiencing could be a side effect of the prescribed medicines you are taking. Try WebMD or medlineplus on the internet. If not the side effects of the medicines, then I would continue smoking just to see if the condtions go away. If they do, then start fresh again in a couple of days, after you make up your mind what you are going to do. If it’s quiting cigarettes then you have to have the will I spoke of and no aids likes patches and gum or pills, nothing. You have to quit cold turkey. If you are going to continue smoking, then you need to control that, don’t let the cigarettes control you and don’t over indulge with them. Wishing you the very best sir and good luck on completing your venture to quit.
